I want to take a moment to revel in the fact that Reed is the easiest child ever when it comes to bedtime. I looked back through the blog to remember how long he has been this way because it seems like he has always been easy. And guess what? It's true! It looks like since he was about 3 months old, we've always been able to lay him down in his crib and let him fall asleep on his own.
I can count on one hand the number of times he's gone to sleep crying, and I distinctively remember him being overtired at those times.
We have a consistent routine: PJs, paci, 2-3 books and a song. We lay him down awake and he chatters to himself or just lies quietly until he goes off to sleep. This occurs at nap time too. My mom constantly tells me that she can't get over how easy he is. She used to be afraid to lay him down at her house for fear he would cry for her, and she would have to pick him up. But nope, he does the same thing at her house--lies down and goes to sleep.
He will often even cry, "night, night" to us if he's overtired. This weekend we were out on the boat, riding the tube and he was having a great time. But I looked over and he was starting to get quiet and staring off into space. "Reed," I said, leaning over, "are you sleepy?"
"Yeeessss.....night night...." he whined.
We went into the house, I gave him his paci and he jumped onto the mat to go to sleep. We actually had to coax him to get up so Gigi could read him a book.
The latest is that I will sometimes let him look at a book before he goes to bed. This is the scene we encountered a few days ago about an hour after I put him down.
He is such a wonderful little boy and night time is such a pleasant, calm time for us. I hope I don't jinx us!
