Trick or Treating

Halloween morning, we carved our pumpkins on the front porch. Reed loved helping, especially the part that included using utensils to scoop out the pumpkin guts. Daddy carved a spooky face, and Mommy carved a "V."

On Halloween night, we took Reed trick or treating around our neighborhood. My parents stopped by and joined us for our short outing.

Before we left, Papa had to treat Reed to his favorite game "Superboy." He'll ask Reed if he wants to play "Superboy" and then either swing him around and around or toss him up in the air or let him semi-freefall to the ground. Whatever he chooses, Reed loves. He lights up when Papa says "Superboy."

It's kind of tough to trick or treat with a 15 month old because they move pretty slow and are satisfied after the first house. We visited about four houses down one side of the street and maybe three back up the other. Reed's bedtime is also at 7 p.m. so there is only so much activity we could get done after dark and prior to bedtime.

The dragon costume we had worked great, and the weather was very mild. Reed got the hang of it pretty quickly. He loves being outside and loves to walk by himself so all of this was right up his alley. He couldn't say "Trick or Treat," but knew that he needed to stick his pumpkin out to get our neighbors to put candy in. We let him open a Dum Dum sucker after the first house, and boy was he happy! He sucked on that lollipop and toddled so happily down the street, bouncing side to side as he walked. He had at least two lollipops while we were trekking around and probably another two when we got back to the house. Every time he finished one, he'd fuss for another. My mom opened the last one, when I finally said, "Mom, how many suckers are you going to give him??" and she replied, "As many as he wants!" Harumph.

Mommy and Daddy finished off the candy over the next few days. Reed really isn't that into candy, and he doesn't care too much for chocolate. I'm sure it will be a different story next year.
