It's Raining Pacifiers!!!

We have come to discover that pacifiers are like socks. They go missing into a black hole. About two weeks ago, Beau and I realized that we were completely out of pacifiers for Reed. He has two at daycare and I keep one in the car. I somehow lost the one in my car so we discovered one panicked night that we had NO PACIFIERS.

This is a big deal at nighttime. Sometimes Reed will fall asleep without one, but he usually needs it to calm down and go to sleep. In the middle of the night he wakes up, and we give him one to go back to sleep. A few times in the last week we have gone to replace it, and we cannot find it. We look all around the crib, get on our hands and knees to look under the crib and all around the floor and still cannot find it.

The other tricky part here is that we actually still have about 10 "generic" pacifiers in his nursery that we were given as gifts in diaper cakes, shower gifts, etc. prior to his birth. Why can we not use those? His Aunt Amanda gave us some Avent pacifiers since she works for Philips, (which manufactures the Avent line of baby bottles, and he LOVES them. They are like crack. He will NOT use another type of pacifier - we have tried. Thanks a lot Aunt Amanda!

Anyway, a few weeks ago when we discovered we were completely out of pacifiers, we went to Target and bought six more.

We have noticed over the last few days that we are running suprisingly low again! Beau seems to think they are ending up daycare, but I have been very careful to not leave any there lest we be short at home.

Well tonight we were on our last one. Beau put Reed down to bed at 7:30 p.m. and about 15 minutes later he woke up screaming. Beau went in and came back out to tell me he couldn't find the pacifier. We don't have another one to spare so I went in to double check on the floor in case he missed it.

I'm on my hands and knees looking under the crib, Reed is crying, and Beau says "I'm sick of these things disappearing," and pulls the crib away from the wall. I hear a noise and all these pacifiers drop to the floor! Beau said, "well there's probably a couple." I look against the far wall and start counting, "1...2..3..4...5...6..7..." Seven pacifiers!!! We were cracking up. Thank god we hadn't lost our minds! Apparently Reed rolls to the back part of the crib and must propel them out of his mouth. Then they fall between the wall and the crib and get stuck.

The raining pacifiers was better than a slot machine payout tonight!!
