Back to Reality

Although last week was both Beau and my official days "back at work," this week really started to feel like it put us back to the grind. Beau is in Springfield for the week, back to his regular travel schedule. Throughout the end of November and December, he was able to stick around the house and St. Louis as, obviously, it's not the best time to call on customers. Usually, he travels 3 or 4 days out of the week, which is what he is doing this week. He left on Tuesday morning and will not be back until Thursday. Last night was the first night I had to stay alone at the new house. It was a little strange.
I didn't have much time to ponder it though because I stayed home sick from work Tuesday. Looks like my annual bout with sinusitis has arrived. Lots of sneezing, coughing and general sinus congestion. I swear I went through three boxes of Kleenex yesterday. My nose is red and raw, and my eyes are a watery mess. Even so, I sat in on a couple of conference calls yesterday morning before I threw my Blackberry under the couch and laid down the rest of the afternoon. I watched a movie called "My Dog Skip." Have you ever seen it? It's about a little boy in the south in the 1940s who is an only child and picked on by bullies. His parents get him a dog that looks like the one from Frasier so that he has a friend. Soon, the town falls in love with the dog and he helps the little boy make friends. At the end of the movie, he goes off to college and leaves the now arthritic dog with his parents. Then the dog dies (sorry if I just spoiled the movie for you). It must have been the illness or something, but I just sobbed and sobbed. I mean outloud crying, hiccuping, moaning, etc. I felt like such a nerd.
It makes me want a dog of our own. Beau and I both want one, but it doesn't seem to be the best time. Beau is traveling, and I just learned that for my new job, I will probably have to be in California 3-4 days a week for at least the next 4-6 weeks. I make my first trip out next week. Guess we will have to wait until things slow down.
